Rector's Recorded Lectures

We are blessed to have a prolific reader, theologian and teacher as our Rector - Dr. theol. Georg Retzlaff. He records many of his lectures and has agreed to make them available to you.

Below are the lecture series we have to offer. These CDs are suitable for use on your computer only. They contain all the audio files of the lecture series. Most CDs include the handouts as documents.

These CDs are produced on-demand. To get your copy please visit our Contact Us page which will open a new window in your browser with our address, phone number and a form with which you may email us. Use any of these methods to tell us which CDs you desire and we'll get in touch with you. We're asking for a donation of $5 for each CD -- we'll add postage if they must be mailed. Anglicanism: 19 lectures with handouts (on two CDs)
A comprehensive examination of the major events, players, doctrines, and problems of Anglicanism, this series will give you a better understanding of a denomination which, wedged between Protestantism and Roman Catholicism, seems to be either lost in no-man's-land or poised to be the last best hope for a united Christendom.
Pentateuch: 31 lectures with handouts (on two CDs)
A hard look at the Torah, the Five Books of Moses, their content and theology. Special emphasis is given to the Middle Eastern context, the date and purpose of composition, and the tortuous relationship Christians have with the first part of the Hebrew Scriptures.
Lenten Series 2007: Virtuous Reality (five audio presentations)
Seven Virtues: four philosophical (Plato); three theological (Paul) – what is the virtuous life? Where does the whole concept of virtue come from? Can it be helpful in the development of Christian spirituality? This is a series for serious seekers after the truth.
Lenten Series 2008: The Our Father (five audio presentations)
The most beloved prayer – the least understood prayer. Here is a radical interpretation which will rock some boats and bless some souls. Jesus was not crucified for teaching people “nice” prayers. This is the prayer that cost Him His life.
Sharing the Gospel: 36 lectures with handouts (on three CDs)
This is a sweeping view of the history and purpose of evangelism: how people, throughout the ages, tried to communicate the message of Jesus. All the cul de sacs, all the trials and errors, all the pathetic attempts to convert whole nations by the power of the sword have had little or no influence on our mission efforts today. If you care about “living and sharing the Gospel”, this series is for you.
Utopia: 27 lectures and handouts (on two CDs)
Dreaming is healthy. People who have no longer any dreams become automatons, cogwheels, apparatchiks, resigned to managing the status quo. Utopia is an invitation to enter a dream world, as old as the human race, given expression by Plato, by Thomas More, and many others who would not settle for same old, same old. They dared to think, plan for, and live an ideal life of beauty, peace, harmony. Crazy? Maybe, but worth studying and mulling over.
Making Sense of Religion: 8 lectures and handouts (on one CD)
Religion is human (man is incurably religious), but where does it come from? Is it invented, delusional, or even sinister? What have some of the most brilliant minds said about the character and function of religion? There are serious detractors and avid advocates: sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists, historians, philosophers, theologians. Those for whom religion is important should know what they were talking about, so they can practice their faith with confidence.
Down to Earth: 14 lectures and handouts (on one CD)
Christians profess to believe in God as creator. Christians are blamed for most of the destruction of that creation. There is something wrong here. Those who are concerned about nature, environment, biosphere have most likely left the Christian church. They find our creed literally interesting, but actually irrelevant. How do Christians relate to the earth, to plants, to animals, to the atmosphere? This series attempts to correct some serious misunderstandings and recapture the Christ vision of lilies, sparrows, of harvest, and fish. If your heart beats for this world, listen.
The Beatitudes: 9 lectures and handouts (on one CD)
The Bible is like a pyramid, not a flat expanse. Not all scripture is “created equal”. The prophets are above the law; the New Testament is above the Old; the gospels are above the letters and Revelation; and in the gospels: there are the Beatitudes, the precious pearl, the epitome of the Gospel Jesus preached, lived, and, ultimately, died for. They are not sweet idealistic phrases but a bold invitation to embrace the new, born-again life. They are Jesus. Knowing them means knowing Him.
